MY PROJECT
For my EDGE project, I volunteered at the AIDS Lifecycle Event as a sports medicine roadie. This event is a 6-day cycling race down the coast of California, starting in San Francisco and finishing in Los Angeles. My job was to tend to the injuries and sore muscles of the cyclists participating in the race.

The ride provided volunteers with a tent, travel between camp locations each day, all meals, and showers. Each night, all participants set up hundreds of small tents for camp. Volunteers were only responsible for bringing camp bedding. Sports medicine volunteers tape and stretch the cyclists for a brief time in the morning before they begin their daily ride. We traveled in vans behind them and set up camp camp for the night upon arriving at the next site. We then spent a long time in the evening stretching, massaging, and taping the athletes before wrapping up for the night.

Life on the Lifecycle
My Project Goals
Through the course of this project, I learned new methods of treatment for the specific injuries and ailments of cyclists as well as practiced personal communication with athletes from a variety of backgrounds.
